Datarock - Catcher in the Rye

Norwegian Dance-punk duo Datarock decided to do something a little different with the release of their "Catcher in the Rye" single in 2011. They packaged it as a 4GB USB stick, in the shape of a diamond toy, which included the following... A five-song EP Catcher In The Rye, A new album Music For Synchronization, Datarock Datarock LP/ Red LP (with bonus tracks), B-sides and rarities compilation, 15 new instrumentals and a 40 track remix album.... oh, I just about forgot the 20 videos, 1500 photos (I think that is a bit much, even for the nuttiest fan), and a 60 minute concert film. I think the CD store here in Taupo may have overlooked this one. Anyway, let's get back to the song (which I downloaded) "Catcher in the Rye." I have only got two words to describe this song. So here are the two words... Talking Heads.

Datarock - "Computer Camp Love"

"Computer Camp Love" has been on Bitter FM playlists for a few years but until now I had never seen the official video. The video paints a similar picture to the one in my head. In other words - it is a perfect accompaniment to this song. "Computer Camp Love" is a humorous computer nerd love song... but with a difference. The difference here is the exchange between the singer and the backing singers. This Norwegian electro-dance band have given young computer nerds a new anthem... even if it is an '80's retro' new anthem. And don't miss the cameo performance from our old friend Mr Commodore 64. 00001011000110010datarock0001100101000100

Datarock - "Fa Fa Fa"

Datarock are a dance-rock or electro-rock band from the musically over represented city of Bergen in Norway. The late 1990's to early 2000's was the peak of what was known as Bergen Wave... with bands such as Kings of Convenience and Royksopp making a name for themselves internationally and putting the city on the map. Datarock came along at the end of that period with the release of their debut album "Datarock Datarock" in 2005. "Fa Fa Fa" was a single off that album and had an instant appeal from the first time I heard it. They are fans of 80's bands Talking Heads and Devo and that influence can be heard on this song.... particularly Talking Heads. Check it out, it is Fa Fa Fa Fantastic!
