Auckland singer-songwriter Ruby Frost (born Jane de Jong) is one to watch out for in the future. She is not only a great songwriter and vocalist, she also has a unique D.I.Y fashion sense.... with capes, sequined or glitter painted outfits to go with her stage presence. She had an interesting childhood with her parents founding the Parachute music label as well as being members of the Parachute band.... which meant a lot of traveling, along with her brother, around the world when her parents toured. As she got older she realized her musical direction was not necessarily in line with what the Parachute label was about, her taste was more Karen O, Joanna Newsom and Bjork, so she decided to do it alone and the result was signing with Universal NZ eventually. She is recording her debut album (after already releasing a couple of EPs) with Chris Zane (Passion Pit, The Walkmen) producing. "Odyssey" is a recent single that has been getting a lot of airplay on Bitter FM. It is a slice of cosmic synth-pop combined with a folkiness, possibly, inspired by her idols.
