Years before covering Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and introducing it to a wider audience, John Cale covered "Heartbreak Hotel" and turned it into the sad song it should've been. I'm not really comparing this to the Elvis hit that everyone knows, because they are too different for that. I'm just saying this version has sadness and heartbreak in bucket loads. John Cale stripped this down to a piano and slowed it right down to half the revolutions.
I think I found another of Nick Cave's influences, right here.
Hits and Myths is a daily song blog from 87.6 Bitter FM, Taupo, New Zealand. This is really just a forum for me to share my excitement about a particular song to anyone who may be interested. The songs could be old or new, from all genres and are all played on Bitter FM.

Sylvan Esso - "Coffee"
When I stumbled upon this song I added it to Bitter FM playlists and fell in love with it more and more over time. A bit of an obsession happening, once again. It's the kind of electronica where less is more. The sparseness perfectly highlights the beauty of the vocals. I thought "Coffee" was going to be another stunning song that would go by, practically un-noticed. But to my amazement, I've already seen it on the top (or close to the top) of a few top songs of the year lists. So, it's not quite the surprise crossover (mega selling) hit like "Dirty Paws" by 'Of Monsters and Men' was, a couple of years ago - but it has been getting noticed and, more importantly, heard. My song of the year.
