Years before covering Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and introducing it to a wider audience, John Cale covered "Heartbreak Hotel" and turned it into the sad song it should've been. I'm not really comparing this to the Elvis hit that everyone knows, because they are too different for that. I'm just saying this version has sadness and heartbreak in bucket loads. John Cale stripped this down to a piano and slowed it right down to half the revolutions.
