Fiona Apple wasn't the first young artist to be exploited by a record company.... with the video of her single "Criminal". She hit back by criticising the industry at an awards ceremony and suffered a backlash from the media. By the time she released her third album "Extraordinary Machine" in 2005 she was no longer the mainstream artist her label had probably hoped. Although she still sold truckloads of records, it was nowhere near her debut. Extraordinary Machine was leaked onto the internet before she reworked some tracks, changed the producer and finally officially released it a couple of years later. It is an album that is worth investing some time in.... the rewards are fruitful, both lyrically and musically. "Not About Love" is a good example of her state of mind at that time.
