The Naked and Famous have been the darlings of the bnet (student radio) stations for the last couple of years.... since their first EP in 2008. But maybe even they wouldn't have expected their latest single "Young Blood" to debut at number one on the NZ singles charts. Not that it isn't worth it, it's just that the top of the charts is usually hijacked by the Kate Perry's and Christina Aguilera's of this world. Their debut album isn't too far away as well and I look forward to that. "Young Blood" sounds very much like some material from Passion Pit, Crystal Castles and even MGMT, but without being wannabes.... they've been doing their own thing for a couple of years, so it's not a case of jumping on the bandwagon. They sound like a young band finding their groove and establishing themselves firmly on the musical landscape. The rest of the world shouldn't miss out on this. It is the best Number One song on the NZ charts since Joy Division's "Love will tear us apart" or the Screeming Meemees' "See me go". A couple of future blogs right there.
